The Lions Club of Donnybrook has strengthened the emergency broadcasting capabilities of Balingup Community Radio (DBCR) with a donation of $5,775 towards a new Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) unit.
Lions Club president Ruth White and secretary Bruce Hearman presented the cheque to DBCR representatives during a meeting on Tuesday, 9 June.
The new UPS replaces the station’s original backup power system and will allow DBCR to continue operating for up to seven hours during power outages. This will help ensure the station can broadcast essential information to the community during severe weather events, power disruptions and other emergencies.
Mrs White praised DBCR for the valuable service it provides to the local community and reaffirmed the Lions Club’s ongoing commitment to supporting the station into the future.
The donation builds on the strong relationship between the two organisations. Since providing seed funding and a location to establish DBCR in 2011, the Donnybrook Lions Club has continued to be a dedicated supporter of the community radio station.
The Lions Club also acknowledges the contribution of Jason Sykes from Southwest Electrical & Communication, who kindly sourced the UPS unit at the best available price and arranged its installation.
This project highlights the importance of local community support and the generosity of businesses, organisations and volunteers. Fundraising activities, including raffles, help make contributions like this possible and enable the Lions Club to continue supporting valuable community services throughout the region.
