The Donnybrook Lions Club was proud to host a free community skin cancer screening day recently, delivered by the Lions Cancer Institute (WA) Inc, providing local residents with access to valuable skin cancer awareness and observational skin checks.
A total of 68 community members attended the event, which was conducted from the Lions Cancer Institute’s mobile screening unit by a dedicated team of volunteers.
The screening day helped promote the importance of skin cancer prevention, early awareness and regular skin checks within the local community. Of those who attended, 11 people advised they had never previously had a skin check. Following observations made during the event, 15 per cent of participants were encouraged to seek further assessment from their GP.
The Lions Club would like to remind the community that the screening service is observational and non-diagnostic. It does not provide a diagnosis or treatment but aims to raise awareness and encourage appropriate medical follow-up where recommended.
The event was made possible through the generous contribution of the Lions Cancer Institute’s volunteer team, including experienced nursing staff, retired medical specialists, administration volunteers and drivers who donated their time to support the Donnybrook community.
The Donnybrook Lions Club extends its thanks to the Lions Cancer Institute (WA) Inc and its dedicated volunteers for delivering this important service to our region. We also thank the 68 community members who attended and took the opportunity to learn more about their skin health.
Special thanks go to Anne from Rustic Pics for capturing the day through photography and helping showcase the community spirit behind this valuable initiative.
The Lions Club also acknowledges the sponsors, donors and community partners whose ongoing support enables the Lions Cancer Institute’s mobile screening service to continue providing free skin cancer screening opportunities to communities throughout Western Australia.
Community support plays an important role in helping services like this reach regional areas and promote greater awareness of skin cancer prevention.
