The LCI is a project of the Lions Clubs of Western Australia.  Since early 1990’s LCI has been providing full body skin screening clinics throughout Western Australia, with an emphasis on Screening the remote and rural areas of the state.

From humble beginnings the Volunteers of LCI have screened over 80 000 patients and our records show that with the annual rate of referrals to a GP is in the order of 27% (21,600) and lesions suspected of being life threatening are at 6% (1260). Early detection of lesions will save lives and lessen the need for invasive surgery.

LCI’s screening program is supported by qualified volunteer Dermatologists, Plastic Surgeons, Dermoscopists and GP’s.

Funding for LCI’s screening programs and research grants is provided by donations from Lions Clubs of WA, Business and from the public.

We are currently raising funds to replace our two ageing screening units with one purpose-built unit. Donations can be made to The Lions Cancer Institute at  WESTPAC BANK, BSB 036-107 ACCOUNT 218 557.

With over 40 stalls filling Ayres Garden, visitors enjoyed a fantastic range of local makers, growers, food vendors and community groups. It was especially encouraging to see — and hear — that local food businesses were kept very busy, helping to spread the benefits of the night right across town.

A sincere thank you to the Shire, who supported the event by installing new and brighter lighting on the platform and at key entry statements to town, as well as staying on site throughout the evening to help ensure everything ran as smoothly as possible. Their ongoing support makes a real difference to community events like this.

As with any large event, a few hiccups did occur, including a bouncy castle malfunction. We appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding — early words have included a clear message that Santa will definitely be louder next year!

Our team was on site early, firing up the BBQ before dawn. We commenced serving hearty bacon and egg breakfasts at 6:00am, and by 6:45am, we had provided 200 hot meals to veterans, families, and members of the public. It was a fantastic turnout and a tremendous effort by everyone involved.

Representing the Lions Club on the day were Bruce Hearman and Steve Garton, along with our guests for the morning—Tamara, who kindly captured the event photos, and Greg and Sam, who generously gave their time to assist. The community’s spirit of giving was on full display, with our donations box receiving over $500. This generous contribution from those attending will be donated in full to the RSL to support their continued work with veterans and their families.

Events like the Gunfire Breakfast are a reminder of how strong and connected our Donnybrook community is. The Lions Club is proud to play a role in supporting both the Shire and our local organisations through service and fundraising.

We’re also pleased to share some great news from the clubhouse. With help from the Shire, we’ve replaced our clubhouse gas hot water system and stove with new electric units—bringing much-needed upgrades to our kitchen. The Lions Club purchased the $900 replacement stove as part of the improvements. We will soon be back to enjoying hot dinners at meetings and events, and ready to keep serving the community with warm meals and warm hearts.

Important Information for Screening Participants:

• The screening is a full-body visual examination, requiring patients to disrobe to their underwear. We kindly ask participants not to wear makeup or nail polish.
• Please note that our screening service is a referral service only. Our screeners do not provide diagnoses or prognoses.
• In the event of suspect lesions, patients will receive a referral letter to their GP for further evaluation.
• The minimum age for screening is 18 years.

The echoes of laughter and melodies still linger in the air as we reflect on the enchanting festivities of the 2023 Donnybrook Lions Christmas Carols, held on the 2nd of December. It was an extraordinary night, where the community came together in the spirit of joy, unity, and celebration.

The stage was set aglow with the twinkling lights and the shimmering decorations, providing the perfect backdrop for the stellar lineup of performers who graced us with their talent. From the soulful tunes of the Bunbury Band to the mesmerising melodies of the Brookhampton Bell Ringers, each act brought a unique charm that warmed the hearts of all in attendance. Allegra Jazz Expressions transported us with their smooth rhythms, while the Diamond Performing Arts Academy dazzled us with their captivating performances, truly embodying the magic of the season.

But the magic didn’t stop there! Families and friends embarked on a whimsical journey aboard the festive train ride, weaving through a magical landscape adorned with lights and holiday decor. Laughter and joy filled the air as children and adults alike marveled at the sights, creating cherished memories for another generation.

And who could forget the moment we had all been waiting for? At 7:15 pm, the atmosphere was electric as Santa Claus made his grand entrance, spreading cheer and goodwill as he listened to the hopes and dreams of each and every attendee. The gleeful squeals of children and the warm smiles of parents illuminated the night, reminding us all of the true meaning of the holiday season.

Their unwavering commitment to our community helped us create an event that will be cherished for years to come.
