Local Projects & Events

Lions club members are men and women who strive to make a difference in their local community as well as in communities worldwide. Their volunteer efforts go beyond the support of vision care, to addressing unmet health and education needs worldwide.

In over 40 years of the Donnybrook Lions Club, we have been involved in a wide range of projects and events throughout the Shire of Donnybrook Balingup and wider. See below for just a few of our main events and bigger projects.

Australia Day Breakfast

The Australia Day Breakfast at Apex Park is an annual event that celebrates Australia’s national day with the local community. The Donnybrook Lions Club organizes and hosts the event, with the help of community volunteers like the CWA and local businesses and local government who provide food, entertainment, and other services.

The breakfast usually consists of a barbecue with sausages, bacon, eggs, and other breakfast foods. There are also vegetarian options available for those who prefer them. Guests can enjoy their breakfast with coffee, tea, or juice, and there is often live entertainment or music to create a festive atmosphere.

Carols By Candlelight in the Amphitheatre

Carols by Candlelight is an annual event hosted by the Donnybrook Lions Club that celebrates the Christmas season with the local community. The event typically takes place in December and is held at the Donnybrook Amphitheatre.

Carols by Candlelight is a family-friendly event that features live music, singing, and holiday-themed entertainment. The event usually begins in the early evening and culminates in a candlelit sing-along of traditional Christmas carols.

Carols by Candlelight is a free event that is open to the public featuring live music, local musicians and singers performing a mix of traditional and modern holiday themed entertainment. Battery powered “candles” are available to purchase before the start of the show and guests are encouraged to sing along with the performers.

The Donnybrook Lions Club works closely with local musicians, schools, and community groups to organize the event and provide entertainment. Attendees are encouraged to bring a picnic blanket, chairs, and candles to enjoy the festive atmosphere and participate in the sing-along.

Carols by Candlelight is a fundraiser for the Donnybrook Lions Club with their sausage sizzle running most years. The club uses the proceeds from the event to support its community service initiatives and projects throughout the year, such as supporting local schools and youth programs, assisting with disaster relief efforts, and promoting environmental sustainability.

Donnybrook Lions Walk Trails

The Donnybrook Lions Walk Trail is a popular walking trail located in Donnybrook, Western Australia. The trail was built by by the Donnybrook Lions Club and is a community initiative designed to encourage outdoor recreation and promote physical fitness.

The trail is approximately 10 kilometres long and offers a variety of terrain, including flat sections and more challenging inclines. It takes hikers through beautiful bushland, past scenic vistas, and along the banks of the Preston River. Along the way, hikers may encounter local wildlife, such as kangaroos and native birds.

The trail is open to the public year-round and is free to use. It is suitable for hikers of all skill levels, but hikers are encouraged to wear sturdy shoes, bring plenty of water, and be prepared for changing weather conditions.

Overall, the Donnybrook Lions Walk Trail is a wonderful community resource that offers residents and visitors alike a chance to enjoy the beauty of the local landscape and stay active in a fun and healthy way.

Donnybrook Apple Festival

The Donnybrook Lions Club is actively involved in the Donnybrook Apple Festival over a number of years. The Apple festival is usually the Easter weekend in Donnybrook, Western Australia. The festival is a celebration of the town’s rich history as a major apple-growing region and attracts thousands of visitors each year but check for days and dates as there can be changes.

As part of their involvement in the festival, the Donnybrook Lions Club has been involved in a variety of ways over the years from selling apple pies, running the popular Lions train, float parades, Apple Queen sponsorship to the beloved Donnybrook Lions sausage sizzle trailer and the local donut van.

In addition to their activities at the festival, the Donnybrook Lions Club also uses the event as an opportunity to promote their community service initiatives and raise awareness about their organization. They may have a stall with information about their various projects and programs, and may also sell Lions Club merchandise to raise funds for their work.

Overall, the Donnybrook Lions Club’s involvement in the Donnybrook Apple Festival is an important part of their commitment to supporting the local community and promoting civic engagement.
